General Information Letterkenny opens 27 November 2009 - 10 January 2010

All applicants must have a good command of the English language.

Staff must be over 18 years of age to apply with a limited number of positions available to those over 16yrs.

The majority of positions will be full-time.

Full-time positions:
Should be available to work a 9:00am - 4:00pm or 4:00pm - 11:00pm schedule, 4 - 5 days a week for the 7 weeks of the event.

Part-time
positions:
Should be available evenings, weekends, 1 - 2 days a week or extended availability during Christmas holidays.

Wages will be discussed at time of offer.

As most roles are customer facing, a pleasant manner, good communication skills and a neat appearance is essential.

Weekend work and availability during the Christmas period are desirable to these roles.

These positions are temporary roles and will terminate on the rink's closing day.

Staff may be required to work in a number of different roles during the event as requested by management.

Applicants must attend staff training on Tuesday 24th November at 7:00pm.

Ice Marshals - (Candidates should be at least 18 years of age)
Ice Marshals are one of the most important staff roles at the event. Ice marshals ensure the safe enjoyment of the public on the ice rink, instantly attending to any mishaps on the ice and handling any issues in a courteous, safe and professional manner. Ice marshals work in Skate Hire between skating sessions (see description of Skate Hire role). Previous Ice Skating experience to a high level of competence is essential to these roles.
Note:
There is a requirement for someone to drive the Ice Cleaning machine (tractor driven) between sessions so possession of a driver's license or particularly tractor driving experience would be an advantage.

Skate Hire
There are a number of non-skating roles in the Skate hire area although a basic level of competence in skating would be preferred but willingness to improve one's skating skills to become an Ice Marshal is desirable. This job entails exchanging skater's shoes for Ice skates in a speedy manner between ice skating sessions and returning the correct shoes in exchange for skates at the end of the skate session. Speed, dexterity and a common sense attitude are essential in this high pressure role although experience as such is not required.

Box Office
The event box office is very busy with upwards of 300 people checking in at any one time. Keyboard/Retail experience and money handling skills are essential along with an outgoing personality, excellent communication skills, abundant energy and an ability to work calmly, accurately and effectively under the severest of pressure.

Health & Safety Officer (only 1 - 2 positions sought)
A Health & Safety officer is required on site at all times. This role is responsible for accurate reporting and compliance of all Health and Safety elements of the event. The role focuses equally on the prevention of incidences and dealing with incidences as they occur. It requires liaising with other 3rd Party contractors namely Health & Safety consultants, First Aid, fire officers, emergency services, security.. etc

Candidates should have some experience in this field or some basic health & safety qualifications. Attention to detail, excellent written communication skills, a health & safety focused mind are essential requirements for this role. During quite times the Health & Safety officer will work in Skate Hire and attend to accidents as they occur.

Cleaners
A staff of cleaners is required for the event. Cleaners are responsible for cleaning all aspects of the event including the bathrooms, cafe area, skate on & off, entrance and all other public areas. Hard working, independent and motivated candidates that show initiative are required.

Control Room / Organiser's Office (only 1 - 2 positions sought)
A small number of staff are required for administration roles in the Organiser’s Office. Tasks include monitoring staff, making regular PA announcements, supporting the various departments and acting as a communication liaison between the event office and the management team and the staff in general. A key function of this role is cash handling, preparing bank lodgements and assisting with Payroll. An aptitude for numbers and cash handling is required. This role also involves an element of employee management and may require assisting with the weekly roster of staff. A clear speaking voice and excellent diction (for PA announcements) are essential along with outstanding administration skills and an ability to quickly size up situations and take the initiative in swiftly making decisions where required. Good computer skills (Word & Excel) are required.

Shop (only 1-2 positions sought) A small number of sales assistants are required for the shop inside the venue.  Responsibilities will include stock rotation, ordering new stock, cash handling and working in a pleasant and tidy manner.

Party Host (3-4 positions sought) Weekend shifts every Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday afternoons for birthday parties.  Duties include meet & greet of individual parties at the Box Office, preparation of birthday party room, organising logistics of each party and ensuring good customer service at all times.  This is a busy role and ability to work under pressure is desirable.  Experience with kids is also desirable and staff must be pleasant, welcoming and understanding towards each party group.

Exhibitor Stands (only 1-2 positions sought) The Professional Photography exhibitor at the venue is looking for personnel to work at their stand.  The role involves promoting the products of the company as well as building a database of potential customers. A pleasant, professional  and friendly manner is essential.

Usher (only 1-2 positions sought) A responsible and efficient role involving asking customers to present their tickets and ensure that the entrance is kept clear at all times.  Personnel should be aware of people traffic to and from the venue. Previous experience with a security company is desirable and references relating to previous similar roles should be brought along to interview.

Ice Spraying (only 1-2 positions sought) This position is for 2-3 hours each night from 11pm.  The ice must be resprayed and in good condition for skating the following morning.  Appropriate clothing for cold conditions is necessary and awareness of health & safety is also essential.
